c1735  (1899)  "The beaver ... was classified into eight varieties . . . Lastly on the list figured the Mittain beaver, which were utilized in the manufacture of mittens, being worth one shilling and ninepence [a pound]."
1744  The eighth is the Mittain beaver,cut out for that Purpose to make Mittains, to preserve them from the Cold, and are greased by being used, and are worth 1 s. 9 d. per Pound.
1912  . . . "Such furs! Beaver in countless packs, all the fat winter skins,--no Bordeaux, no Mittain."
